The Berkeley Pier has been a favorite spot for fishers since the mid 1800s.

Hugh Cloutier, Robert Ohling, Edwin Perry and Eugene Martinez line the rails of the Berkeley pier for some free fishing in April 1946.

Ellen Wood and Laura Mouradian fish from their bicycles and Margaret Ferreira shows her catch in March 1944.

Every year from 1919 to 1987, the children of Oakland’s elementary and junior high schools performed in the Oakland Christmas Pageant as a gift to the people of the city. Louise Jorgensen, of the Parks and Recreation Department, organized, choreographed and taught each program every year.
